You can do hard things

I will take this picture over a filter any day.

This was me at HYROX!  What a weekend!!!

To say I am proud of myself, and my friend Karen (other Karen, I have way too many Karen’s in my life) is an understatement.

Hyrox is incredible. Last year I looked on at Glasgow Hyrox with a broken arm thinking those folks were crazy, you know that old saying…….

“I could never do that”

I used to let that statement define me, telling what I could and could not do. I used to believe that voice in my head.

And now, well now I take it on as a challenge. I hear it and think, really??? You don’t think so, what if we tried?

Do you listen to the voice in your head and let it restrict you or do you flip it round and use it to fuel you and see where it could take you?

I never used to though and it is definitely another outcome of giving up alcohol. You see I thought when I gave up alcohol, I was just giving up alcohol but it was more, way more. As I have gained a new mindset and this face is proof.

It is proof that I can do hard things, really hard things.

If you can give up alcohol in this crazy world. In the world that tells you, you need alcohol to socialise, to feel confident and relaxed, even with your own friends. In a world that has lied and told you, you need alcohol to relax even from the comfort of your own home. You need alcohol to celebrate your own child’s birthday, to mourn the death of your own auntie, to relax on the holiday you have saved up for and paid for with your own hard-earned cash. The lies, the constant lies.

So, if you manage to give up alcohol even with all these stories around you, well, let me tell you, you CAN DO HARD THINGS!!!! And more than that, you will relish those hard things. You start to believe in yourself, you start to see a tough day and know it will work out, you know you will come out the other end. You start to look out for other things that will push you, that will teach you, that will improve you.

You will want to grow.

And that is what this photo tells me. I can do hard things and I will continue to do hard things. So, in the future when something tough comes my way. I know I have it in me to cope, to deal with it and to do it with a straight head
